Multi-pair overall shielded cables are found in a wide variety of industrial and commercial uses. Some of these uses include industrial equipment control circuits and remote control circuits. These cables are also used in Point-of-Sale (POS) equipment and in control circuits where total signal isolation is required. The wire pairs are surrounded together by an aluminum foil shield. The shielding is then encased in a durable yet flexible PVC jacket. These cables offer excellent high-frequency properties and mechanical durability.

Why use an overall shield? The wires are shielded in order to reduce interference that could interrupt the signal. It serves to block the electromagnetic interference from entering or exiting the cable. Selecting the correct type of multi-pair cable can be somewhat confusing.
