What are Delphi Connectors?

Delphi connectors which are now called Aptiv connectors are a series of environmentally sealed connectors designed and manufactured to handle exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. It is those resistances we mentioned that make them so popular. These connectors are common to the automotive industry. They are useful for much more than that though. The sealed connection that they create is essential in harsh marine conditions. Delphi connectors are designed to create dis-connectable, environmentally sealed connections. This is achieved by placing a seal over a stripped wire before the terminal is added. Now, when the terminal is crimped to the wire, the seal is slid into the correct position. Finally, this wire is inserted in the Delphi connector making sure that both the terminal and seal go easily into place. The terminal locks into position holding the seal with it. This process creates an environmentally sealed connection.

What makes them advantageous?

Solderless Installation

Delphi connectors, also known as Aptiv connectors offer advantages you will not find with other types. For starters, Delphi connectors use tin-plated terminals and have special core wings that allow crimp-only connections. This totally removes the need for solder which saves you time and headache. Another advantage they offer is that the connector and cavity seals are triple-ribbed and made of self-lubricating silicone. This means insertion is an easier task and the seal they make offers an extremely high level of protection. As we said above, Delphi connectors are designed to withstand exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and fluids.

Dual Locking

Are you worried about the terminals coming loose or backing out of the connector? Don’t be. Delphi connector terminals have dual-locking tangs to prevent backing out and each connector has a secondary lock and Connector Position Assurance (CPA). These measures mean that you can trust your connection will remain solid even under vibration and stress.

Reduces Stress/Strain

Before we wrap up the advantages, we should touch briefly on plugging the connectors together. Each of the connectors has positive locking indexing which prevents mis-mating of the connectors. To make it even better, terminal plugging requires no orientation meaning you can insert the pins and sockets with no regard to top and bottom. Additionally, the way the pins and sockets line up is designed to reduce stress on the wires. All of these aspects line up to create a superior connection method.
