What are switch covers?
Switch covers are designed to fit existing switch bodies, providing clear identification of function while enhancing appearance. Available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, switch covers serve the diverse needs of many industries. The covers we focus on are specifically engineered for use with Contura rocker switches. Known for their wide variety of visual indication options and simple installation, these covers are widely used across the marine industry, as well as in automotive, off-road, RV, and industrial applications.
"Designed to fit existing switch bodies, providing clear identification of function while enhancing appearance."
We offer multiple styles and identification options, ensuring customers can find exactly what they need for their specific setup. One of the most common questions we receive is about the different types of switch covers available, and we’re here to provide the details.
What types of switch covers are available?
We offer switch covers in two main varieties: blank switch covers and laser-etched switch covers. At first glance, it may seem that the only difference is that some are etched and some are not; however, the two types are vastly different. They are not only available in different shapes, but they also differ in body colors and lens options. Let’s take a more detailed look at the two types.
- Blank switch covers — We offer blank switch covers in three distinct styles, each of which we will examine further down. Every cover is made from thermoplastic polycarbonate with a hard nylon overlay. This ensures that they are well equipped to handle even the harshest marine environments. With blank switch covers, you have the option to choose the body color, number of lenses, and the lens color.
- Laser-etched switch covers — These covers are also made from thermoplastic polycarbonate; however, etched switch covers are molded with a translucent white insert behind the rocker face. This type of switch cover is available in over 100 etched options, meaning you can find the symbol and etching you are looking for. Etched switch covers offer a higher degree of protection and longevity. These are available in one or two lenses and with or without etching.
What types of blank switch covers are available?
When selecting a blank switch cover, you have the option to choose from three separate series: Series II (ES), Series III (EC), or Series V (EV). Each offers a different body and lens style, giving greater choice and variety.

Series II (ES)
Styling consists of four rows with raised tactile indicators.

Series III (EC)
Styling consists of three rows of bars on top and bottom.

Series V (EV)
Styling consists of rounded edges and a smooth finish.
Each of these series are available in black, white, or red bodies. To learn more about the different options per series, click here.
What makes switch covers advantageous?
Switch covers are advantageous for several reasons, including ease of installation, long-term durability, resistance to harsh conditions such as UV exposure, simplified switch identification, and ridiculously easy maintenance and replacement. Without removable switch covers, each switch would need to have a specific cover built onto it, which is not efficient or affordable. One of the biggest benefits that switch covers offer is their versatility.

How are switch covers installed?
Switch covers are installed by simply aligning the cover over the body of the switch and firmly pressing until you hear and feel a click.
They are designed so that the entire process is simple and fast. It literally takes about five to ten seconds to properly install a switch cover. Now there is one caveat: in order to properly remove an existing cover, it is best to use the proper tool.
What tools are used to replace switch covers?
Switch covers are easily removed with the Contura removal tool. This tool is designed to quickly remove the switch cover without damaging the cover or the switch body. It is small enough to fit into your pocket, making it ideal for rapid change out. You could remove an existing cover using a screwdriver or similar device, but you run the risk of damage. Using a $7 tool is a much better plan than replacing a $25 switch.
Where are switch covers implemented?
Switch covers make switch identification a simple task
Switch covers are implemented in applications where a switch's function needs to be easily identifiable. They are one of the most common items found on marine vessels. They are ideal when installing new equipment as well as when replacing parts. If you have faded or damaged switch covers, then these are exactly what you are looking for. All you will need are the proper switch bodies and the proper switch cover removal tool.
What resistances do switch covers offer?
Pacer’s switch covers are highly resistant to environmental hazards. While etched switch covers offer a higher degree of protection, both are well suited for marine applications. They are resistant to UV exposure, salt, moisture, abrasion, and chemical exposure. It is important to note that the switch covers themselves don’t make the switch waterproof and that the sealing comes from the switch body and gasket. Each cover style is designed to complement that sealing and maintain visibility and durability in harsh conditions.

What compliances do switch covers meet?
Having been designed for marine applications, Pacer’s switch covers are highly compliant, meeting such compliances as UL 1500, CSA certification, IP68, RoHS, Reach complaint, and more. By meeting such high-level compliances, all Pacer switch covers are perfectly suited for the toughest marine conditions.
