What types of Industries are served by Pacer?

Historically, Pacer has been heavily involved in serving the marine, automotive, and equipment manufacturing (or repair) industries. Additionally, many of Pacer’s customers are involved in the fields of performance racing, golf carts, photovoltaic solar power, battery back up power, and heavy electrical equipment in the construction and material handling industries. Essentially, we can serve any industry that makes or repairs machinery that is mobile and/or uses a battery.

Primary Wire (UL and SAE)

Does Pacer manufacture its own wire?

Yes! Pacer wire is made in the USA at our facility located in Sarasota Florida. We ensure top quality products by monitoring the wire during every phase of the manufacturing process. To guarantee a consistent diameter, Pacer wire is monitored by a four beam laser micrometer system just after the outer jacket is extruded onto the conductor. The print on the outer jacket can be customized, as our line applies it directly during the manufacturing process using a one foot circumference print wheel. This allows our customers to use the text length to determine a cable length in 1-foot increments, without needing a tape measure. The entire length of the finished wire passes through a high voltage spark tester to ensure 100% insulation integrity. After the wire is spooled onto a master reel from the extrusion line, Pacer packs smaller reels or drum packs per each customer’s order.

What makes Pacer Wire and Cable so Flexible?

Rope stranding and high quality outer PVC jacket combine to give our cables outstanding flexibility. Multiple bundles of fine stranded tinned copper wire allow the cable to bend and flex without fear of damaging the copper or reducing its conductivity.

Our PVC outer jacket is made from 100% virgin PVC material, never PVC regrind. When PVC regrind is melted and extruded, the effect of the heat history of the regrind can materialize in ways which affect extrusion quality, such as its heat stability, toughness, and surface appearance.

Is Pacer’s UL 1015 Primary Wire the same as machine tool wire?

Machine Tool Wire (MTW) is rated at 90°C and is typically used for internal wiring of machine tools, appliances, and control cabinets. UL 1015 was introduced to improve the safety of hook-up wire and has become increasingly popular over the past 15 years. UL 1015 calls for a voltage rating of 600V and a temperature rating of 105°C. Pacer has multiple UL rating approvals, which can be printed on the wire to cover a wide range of applications. For orders requiring colored striping, we have a custom spiral striping machine which can add one to three stripes to the solid color wire. For drum pack orders, we can apply a linear stripe during extrusion.

What is the main application for Pacer’s SAE tinned wire?

Our Tinned SAE Wire is an excellent alternative to traditional automotive wire. It’s a higher quality wire because of the tin coating which reduces corrosion, and its fine stranding makes it more flexible than standard automotive wire.

Our unique configuration of tinned copper conductors manufactured to meet the J1128 & J378 standards with a 60V rating offers you the best solution for DC power in harsh environments, as well as conditions involving heavy vibrations.

Battery Cable - Tinned Copper, Bare Copper and Assemblies

What are the most important features of Pacer’s SAE battery cable?

As with all Pacer wire, SAE Battery Cables are stranded for flexibility. SAE cables comply with J1127 SGT and J378 with a 60V rating. These cables are commonly used in many types of vehicles including automotive, bus, motorcycle, truck and tractor, as well as generators and battery packs. We recommend using tinned closed end lugs with adhesive-lined heat shrink for maximum life span of your assemblies or you can let Pacer make them. We also offer pre-made battery cable assemblies, as well.

What makes Pacer’s Duplex Cable (2 Conductor Cable) better than other duplex cables on the market?

Our UL Duplex is one of the highest quality cables you can find. Many other duplex cables on the market have an outside jacket that is just a tube holding the two conductors. Pacer's outside jacket is extruded onto the conductors for more stability and better protection. Our cables are very flexible because each of the conducting wires is highly stranded, and we use virgin PVC which allows for bending without creating the micro-cracks which occur when regrind PVC is used.

Why does Triplex Cable (3 Conductor Cable) come in different color schemes?

The white jacket is typical of 120V AC US wiring, the blue jacket is typical of 240V AC US wiring, and the tan jacket is typical for 230V AC European wiring. Choose the color combinations you are looking for with our three different Triplex Cable styles. Whether you need the cable for a brand new build or repairing an existing vehicle or vessel, Pacer has the combination you need.

Why does Pacer make both tinned battery cables and bare copper battery cables?

Tinned copper provides an extra level of protection against corrosion and improves solderability. If corrosion protection and soldering are not a concern for your application, bare copper stranding is less costly. Pacer recommends that all battery cables be terminated with closed end lugs and sealed with epoxy-lined heat shrink for maximum lifespan.

Why does Pacer offer Round Boat Cable in addition to Flat Boat Cable?

Pacer’s Round Boat Cable can bundle 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, or 12 conductors where flat cable can only accommodate two or three conductors. The round shape is easier to fit through tight spaces, because it is more flexible in all bending directions.

Should I buy Pre Made Battery Cable Assemblies or make them myself?

Pacer's pre-made Battery Cable Assemblies are made with battery terminals that have been securely attached using a hydraulic-pneumatic crimper. We combine this process by adding epoxy-lined heat shrink to give you superior electrical connections that are air-tight, gas tight, and resistant to moisture corrosion. By purchasing pre-assembled cables, you can get what you need, when you need it, with no minimums, or scrap, which will reduce your inventory cost. Our pre-made battery cables are designed to last for decades – much longer than your battery’s lifetime. However, if all you need is the cable alone, Pacer also offers battery cable cut to any length.

Does Pacer offer custom Battery Cable Assemblies?

Yes. Custom lengths and configurations are available with short lead times by contacting customer service.
