Coaxial cable RG11U is most frequently used in the transmission of communications signals. Commonly, network, audio, and video signals. You may recognize these cables if you have ever looked at the backside of your modem or cable box. Many people who use this cable don't even realize that they are actually called coaxial. They call them coax, which is the shorthand term for them. So, what does coax, or coaxial mean?

The term coaxial means that this cable contains two conductors separated by an insulating material. The inner conductor is within a cylindrical material that insulates it. This insulating material is then covered by a conducting shield. There may even be another insulating layer after the shield. Often, the inner conductor is the one that handles the signal carrying voltage. The shield is then kept at ground potential. One advantage of a design such as this is that the magnetic and electric fields are bound within the insulating material. This design helps to reduce leakage outside of the shield.

So what is RG11U? It is a 14-gauge wire which is a higher gauge than most other video cables. This gives it a greater ability to transfer signals. RG11U cable provides up to 3Ghz frequency. This makes it ideal for HDTV, CATV, TV antenna, and even video distribution. Selecting the correct coaxial cable for your project isn't always an easy task.
