Which types of Deutsch connectors are available?
The Deutsch DT series of Deutsch connectors is available in four styles to meet a variety of needs and applications. Each of the types we will look at is designed for use with specific wire gauges and amperages. All of these connectors are designed to work with Deutsch pins and Deutsch sockets to help create solid electrical connections. Do not worry, navigating the different types is much easier than you may think.
The DTM line of connectors is built for use with lower amperages. They work with size 20 contacts, which are 24-20 AWG wires, and offer 7.5-amp continuous capacity. A great way to remember these is that the “M” in DTM means “mini”. The mini connectors handle lower amperages. See how easy it is. Do not be fooled though. Just because they are smaller does not mean that they are not durable.

The DT line is a larger line of Deutsch connectors than the DTM and is designed for use with size 16 contacts, which are 20-14 AWG wires, and offer 13-amp continuous capacity. These are the most commonly used line in the DT series of environmentally sealed Deutsch connectors. Their durable housing is built to handle the toughest environmental conditions making them a solid choice for a range of applications.

When looking for connectors for higher power applications, look no further than the DTP line. Just as the “M” in DTM means “mini”, the “P” in DTP means “Power”. This line of Deutsch connectors is designed for use in applications where each circuit needs to handle 25-amp continuous power. Just like all of the Deutsch connectors, the DTP line is field serviceable and built for durability.

This line of Deutsch connectors is single circuit meaning that there is only a single cavity in each connector. The DTHD, or “Heavy Duty” and designed for the toughest conditions and highest power requirements. They work with 10-6 AWG wire and can easily handle 60 or 100 amp continuous power depending on the style you select. Commonly, these are used as an alternative to a splice where field serviceability is a requirement.

What are Deutsch Repair Packs and Deutsch Kits?
Deutsch repair packs and kits are specialized pre-packaged sets containing all the materials needed to complete or replace existing Deutsch connectors. These are available for a number of the Deutsch connectors we offer. So, just what is the difference between a Deutsch repair pack and a Deutsch kit? It's pretty easy to tell them apart. Our Deutsch repair packs contain the connector body, a wedge lock, Deutsch pins or Deutsch sockets, and in some cases, cavity plugs. In this way, they contain all the parts needed to create or repair a Deutsch connection. Our Deutsch kits, on the other hand, contain only the connector body and a wedge lock. These are ideal for situations where you already have Deutsch pins or Deutsch sockets and only need the housing pieces. Which terminals do I use with Deutsch Connectors?
Deutsch connectors require high-quality terminals that are specifically designed for longevity, durability, and field serviceability. These Deutsch pins and Deutsch sockets create a mated pair built around the idea of the simplicity of use and ease of installation. To make the termination process easier, each Deutsch pin and Deutsch socket contains a small hole near the base of the terminal. What tools do I use?
Deutsch connectors use specialized terminals like the Deutsch pins and Deutsch sockets we discussed above. In order to use those terminals, you need the proper tools. Trust me when I tell you, using the wrong tools will not give you the correct crimp pressure. That means that you will either lose conductivity, or the wire may even slide out of the terminal once stress is applied. Additionally, using the wrong tools can lead to damage to the wire insulation, the conductors, or both. The proper tools give you the exact crimp each and every time and ensure that you have the highest level and conductivity and security. What compliances do Deutsch connectors meet or exceed?
Deutsch connectors meet or exceed a range of compliances which are specific to each various type of connector. That is to say that DTHD connectors may not carry the same compliances as a DT connector or a DTP connector. That makes it a little difficult to give a list of compliances since not all compliances apply equally. Two compliances that do apply to all Pacer’s Deutsch connectors and wedge locks are RoHS compliance and ELV compliance. These two alone show that thought and care have been put into the design and creation of these products.
